STAFF MEETING AGENDA WELCOME MEETING 1       Aug. 2019

I hope you are looking forward to a this year as much as I am. I am grateful to be here. I hope to learn about you and from you. The goal of this meeting is to meet each other. Establish a supportive environment and talk about the year ahead.  The questions below serve as a framework for creating consistency within the English department (even though we work quiet individually) but also for the purpose of the blog I’d like to create for the English Staff, students, parents and teachers. Thank you for your help
Obviously no right or wrong answers.

1)   Please introduce yourself and talk about what you did this summer. How would you describe yourself? What are your strengths as a teacher? How would you decide your teaching style? What skills or strengths could you help staff with?

2)   What is student success and achievement mean to you?

3)   How do you (we) achieve it?

4)    How would you like to see the English department run?

5)   What plans do you have for the first semester? What skills do you want the students to have mastered for each group by the end of the first semester? Second semester? How do you plan on measuring achievement of those skills?

6)   What is your plan on the first day of school?

7)   What are your expectations of me?

8)   What do you currently need to be able to teach better? What is currently inhibiting you from being a better teacher? What can I provide you to help?

9)   How should problems be dealt with that arise during the year? What problems could you envision encountering during the year? How would those be solved/addressed?

Hierarchy of administration?

Assessment: needs to be done. How do you plan on doing that?

How do we communicate with each other?

When should we communicate with each other?

Goals of the English Department is to support student growth and achievement and achieve the benchmarks published by the Ministry of Education. The achievement of this goal is dependent on communication, creativity and effective problem solving.
I expect all community members to put students first. This means that their emotional, cognitive and physical wellness is our priority above all else.

Whatever is getting in the way of this goal it my duty to fix. I expect whoever is reading this to let me know.  I expect this community to nurture this goal.

I think two test is reasonable a semester.

Identify problems and voice concerns. Just as we should expect our students to voice their concerns directly to us before they go to the principle. Identify the problem, vocalize it.

First Day: expectation are clear
Introduction: What is your teaching style. What are your teaching goals for this year? What skills do you want the students to know by the end of the semester. How will you test it/ check aquired skill?

Expectations: Fill out the worksheet below. Present clearly the expectations you have for your students as well as go over the Technon with them. Predictability and consistency are favorable.

Hierarchy of administration is as is. If someone does not abide by the rules presented in the Technon, especially if it demonstrates violence in any way (verbal, threats, physical, sexual, intimidation) this must be addressed immediatly and brought to my attention. No one in this school will behave that way or else they come to me.
Otherwise the following heirarchy is needed.

Problem:
Student solves it himself
Teacher helps student solve problem
English Coordinator informed
Sigan etc.

Assessment: needs to be done. How do you plan on doing that?

Statement: My job is to make sure that they are prepared for the Bagrut. They must have certain skills to do that. By the time they get to me, I expect them to be able to do a Module A or B exam. LOTS, HOTS.

Goals : Do whatever I can to help you be the best teacher you can be.  Identity problems and if  you need someone to do your "dirty work" please come to me.
